With September coming, it's that incredible time of year when it seems like everything gets back to normal. "Normal" is relative in the case of Guelph Transit though, because September is usually the time for some schedule or route changes, and this September is no exception.

Guelph is AA+ For Six Years Running (Financially Speaking)
In spite of all those public masturbators, Guelph continues to hold a very strong AA+ credit rating in the newest evaluation from Standard and Poors. In their humble estimation, Guelph looks very financially stable for the next few years, and, if we play our cards right, we might even get our credit status upgraded.

Guelph-Wellington's a Smart City, as Pitch Passes First Round of Competition
In April, the City of Guelph and Wellington County revealed their submission for the Federal Government's Smart City Challenge: the creation of the Canada's first circular food economy. As luck would have it, the selection committee liked what Guelph and Wellington are offering, and now we're off to round two.

This Week in Guelph Beer News
We don't often talk about beer here on Guelph Politico, but sometimes circumstances warrant the stretching of this site's normal beat, and here we are, about to talk about beer. And for local beer lovers, this is going to be a good news/bad news situation.

Guelph Location for Cannabis Store Announced on Stone(r) Rd
Guelph wasn't the first on the list to get a legal cannabis store, but we are one of the first to get a location for ours. The LCBO, and its legal post subsidiary the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS), announced Wednesday where four of the government pot shops will open this summer. Appropriately enough, the Royal City's OCS will open nestled near a number of snack-friendly locations in the plaza across from, appropriately enough, Stone Road Mall.

Monday Morning Massacre at the MRF
A lot of people showed up for work at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) this morning, and found out that they may not have a job there for too much longer. In all, 18 employees of the MRF will no longer be working there as the City of Guelph tries to streamline the operation in advanced of the completed service review coming back to council.

Province of Ontario Makes Another Deal with Nestle, Not Water Related
The word Nestlé is the source of much controversy in our area, but one can't deny that there are a number of people in and around Guelph, and across the province, that owe their livelihood to Nestlé. And so we're reminded of this again today with the Government of Ontario's announcement that they are partnering with Nestlé to support new jobs, and to keep old ones, up the road in London, Ontario.

Greyhound Cancelling Trips Between Guelph and Kitchener
Bad news for local commuters travelling between K-W and Guelph, especially if you take the Greyhound. Starting on December 10, the bus line will be running fewer trips between the Royal City and Kitchener, merging mid-day and night schedules due to low ridership.

Never Mind the Smell, the Air is Fine
If you live in the south end of the city, and the air smells vaguely like "dill pickles and burnt plastic" (as one person on Facebook describe it), the good news is that you're in no danger. The bad news is you might have to live with aroma for a couple of days.

A little more than 65 months after city council passed the latest update to the Official Plan, OPA 48, it is finally the law that governs the development of the land. The Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) approved the City’s Official Plan Amendment (OPA) 48 with some modifications on October 5.
