City Pushing to Eliminate the Last Lead Pipes in Guelph

If you've seen these black signs pop up around your neighbourhood, it's no cause for concern, unless you've gotten a postcard-size version of it in your mailbox, in which case the City of Guelph wants to hear from you. The City of Guelph is targeting a few hundred houses that remain untested for lead pipes in the hopes of finally closing the book on that infrastructure misstep.

Press Release - Water Rates on Rise, Not By Much

Prepare to pay 13 cents more for your water services. That's the total change in increases approved by city for the Water and Wastewater Services, Building Code Administration and Court Services budgets. Of course, that doesn't come out to a 13 cent increase on your bill. The average bill will see an increase from $781 to $808, which is $27 or 3.5 per cent more, but the city notes that this is the smallest increase in these costs in five years (which is sure to be small comfort to those getting the bill).

Seriously, Do Not Call

I got this press release today, and my immediate visceral reaction was that it was so bizarre it deserved to be posted on Politico.

Granted, it's probably solid advice, and there might be two or three people that try and call City Hall in a desperate struggle around the lunch hour on Saturday, but honestly, what are the odds that you'll have to? Does anybody worth calling at City Hall work on Saturday? By-law enforcement maybe.
