Former Enviro Commish of Ontario Miller Making Big Political Move

A curious press release showed up this morning, an invitation to a press event where in Gord Miller, former Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, will be announcing "his plan to run in the upcoming federal election in the riding of Guelph." Specifically? Well, if he's going to be a major party candidate, he has one of two choices, and considering his career path, it should be fairly obvious what colour banner he'll be waving come the fall.
There was no party affiliation attached to the Miller announcement, but this is not the first time I've heard his name associated with running federally in this coming election cycle. A McAllister opinion poll taken back in February mentioned Miller as a possible Conservative candidate, probably due to his background as a Progressive Conservative candidate in the 1995 Ontario provincial election, and the 1997 federal election. He was appointed as Environmental Commissioner by Mike Harris in 1999.
But that was then, and this is now, and the current Conservative government cares not for people who are proactive on the environment. Miller's achievements include the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, which aims to protect bees from neonicotinoid pesticides, and being an active watchdog on the climate change portfolio, pushing the government to do more. Given all that, it seems likely that Miller will be stepping up for the Green Party of Canada.
Miller will announce tomorrow at 10:30 am at the Woolwich Arrow pub downtown.
UPDATE: The Guelph Mercury confirmed that Miller is indeed running for the Green Party of Canada.
