PRESS RELEASE - City Wants Feedback About Rapid Transit and Other Issues

Guelph Transit is working very hard to get its act together. It's put together a pretty comprehensive remodel of the transit system and schedule that should go into effect later this year, but Transit wants more. Specifically, it wants more people to get on our city buses. What would it take for you to give up your car and take public transit more often? What are some ways that the city can get people to their destination quicker? What other areas can transit improve in? If you have an answer to any of these, or other transit related questions, the city wants to hear from you at a meeting next week.

Guelph, ON, May 27, 2015 – Guelph Transit invites riders and members of the public to attend a public event on Wednesday, June 3 to discuss options for making Guelph Transit better, faster and more reliable.

“We recognize Guelph Transit must evolve to keep pace with population and employment growth, and to reach our 15 per cent modal share target by 2031,” explains Phil Meagher, general manager, Guelph Transit. 

“To increase transit use, Guelph Transit needs to implement appropriate transportation priority measures, which may include bus rapid transit. We want to involve our riders and the community at large in helping us determine what transit options would work best in Guelph.”

At the event, participants will:

• Learn about the Guelph Transit Priority Project,
• Hear from transit experts;
• Learn about bus rapid transit and other transit priority measures being considered by Guelph Transit, and
• Provide feedback on the preliminary recommendations to implement transit priority measures in Guelph.

For those who cannot attend in person, there is an opportunity to provide feedback online at guelphtransit.ca from June 3 to 17.

Guelph Transit will gather public feedback before finalizing and submitting the Guelph Transit Priority Project recommendations to City Council in fall 2015.
