Want to Eat Breakfast with These Guys?
The above poster is for an event series starting this Thursday, a regular breakfast meeting with Ward 2 Councillor James Gordon and Ward 3 Councillor Phil Allt at Breezy Corners downtown. Called "a free range breakfast conversation 'over easy,'" if you've got burning questions for the two city councillors, on any subject, you're invited to 44 Macdonell St at 8 am on Thursday.
Longfield Holding Townhall on Budget
Want to know how the Federal Budget will impact you and your city, well good news, because Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield is going to explain it to you. He'll be bringing Vaughan-Woodbridge MP Franceso Sorbara, and Fred Richardson, a partner at Tax – BDO Canada to the Atrium at Innovation Guelph on the third floor of 111 Farquhar Street, on Tuesday at 6:30 pm to tell you all about it. Victor's Information Centre is Moving
Starting Monday, if you should happen to go to the Visitor's Centre at City Hall, you won't find it there because it will be in its new home at the Guelph Civic Museum. “The Civic Museum is an ideal location for visitor information as it is one of Guelph’s signature visitor attractions, is accessible, and has full-service weekend hours and free parking,” says Ella Pauls, manager of Cultural Affairs and Tourism in a press release. The move has been undertaken as part of the 2014 Tourism Operational Review, a report to find efficiencies in the running of the city's tourism services to maximize the benefits and positive economic impact. As for the space that now used to be occupied by the Visitor's Centre, it will be used by Guelph-Wellington Local Immigration Partnership until the City can do a review of space on City Hall's first floor.
Road Closure at Wyndham and Howitt Next Week
As part of the City's plan to instal new sewers and reconstruct the roadway on Wyndham St S, the intersection at Wyndham and Howitt St will be closed all next week. During most of the construction period, traffic on Wyndham Street will be maintained in both directions between Wellington St and York Rd., but lane width will be reduced to accommodate construction. Motorists travelling through the work area should expect delays. Access to driveways along Howitt may be delayed as well with the moving of equipment, although every effort will be made to offer advanced notice. For more information on the project click here.
Province Delivers Money for York Rd Upgrades
It turns out the Feds aren't the only ones that an deliver on infrastructure money for cities. An announcement at City Hall Friday saw MPP Liz Sandals reveal a $2.6 million cheque for the City of Guelph through the Province’s Connecting Links Program to cover upgrades and improvements to York Rd between Wyndham St and Ontario St starting this June. “York Road is important to the city for many reasons: it’s a major road; a truck route; a transit route; and one of the key gateways to our city. It’s also a prime commercial corridor that’s poised to grow in Guelph,” said Mayor Cam Guthrie in a statement. So what happens next? Well, as fate would have it, the City is having an open house Wednesday from 5 to 7 pm at the F.M. Woods Station (Water Services), 29 Waterworks Place, to tell you all about it.
