The full city press release is below for your information:
Guelph, ON, May 2, 2014 – The City of Guelph is set to resume construction on Gordon Street and Wellington Street this spring.
The City is undertaking construction on Gordon Street and Wellington Street in support of the development at 40 Wellington Street. This project involves the reconstruction of Gordon Street from Wellington Street to the Gordon Street Bridge, as well as Wellington Street from Gordon Street to approximately 250m west of McCrae Boulevard.
The Gordon Street reconstruction work is tentatively scheduled to start during the week of May 5 with anticipated completion, weather permitting, by the end of June 2014.
In order to safely complete the reconstruction project, it will be necessary to restrict traffic to two through lanes at the intersection of Gordon and Wellington streets. In addition, no left turns will be allowed on to Wellington Street in the easterly and westerly direction from approximately May 5 to June 16, 2014.
Prior to the start of construction work on Wellington Street, the City is hosting an open house.
Thursday, May 8
5-7 p.m.
City Hall, Galleria, 1 Carden Street, Guelph
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the open house to learn about the project, including potential traffic impacts and property access during construction, and to provide comments to City staff.
Reconstruction of Wellington Street is anticipated to start in May 2014 and take approximately 6 months to complete. During the installation of underground services, traffic on Wellington Street will be reduced to one lane in the west bound direction only. The detour for eastbound traffic will be along Stone Road.
Every effort will be made to maintain access to homes and businesses during the reconstruction, however, there will be times when access to driveways will be restricted.
Bicycle lanes will be closed on Gordon Street between Wellington Street and the Gordon Street Bridge. Cyclists are advised to find an alternate route. A map of the City’s bicycle routes is available at guelph.ca/bike.
The proposed work on Gordon and Wellington streets involves the widening of both streets to create on-street parking, utility upgrades and underground site servicing. The proposed work includes replacement and upgrading of the storm sewer, watermain, street lighting, curb and gutter, sidewalk, driveway aprons, median and asphalt paving.
