Information on Public Funeral for Constable Kovach


From City Hall yesterday evening, the latest update on the public funeral for the late Constable Jennifer Kovach.
Some of the information below will likely change in the next couple of days and obviously I'll try to keep you updated as best I can.
As Guelph Police Services works with the Kovach family to prepare for Constable Kovach’s public funeral to celebrate and remember her life, the City of Guelph advises of impacts on traffic, transit and parking.

The City will continue providing updates as details about the event become available.

Visitation
Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 20
2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral Procession and Service
Thursday, March 21
At 10 a.m. the procession will begin at Police Headquarters at 15 Wyndham Street South and proceed north on Wyndham to Trafalgar Square, then south on Woolwich to the Sleeman Centre. The Service will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Sleeman Centre, 50 Woolwich Street, Guelph.

Traffic – Please Drive Carefully
Higher than normal traffic volumes are expected in the south end of the city as visitation takes place over the next few days. Drivers may also experience traffic congestion downtown on Thursday, March 21.

Downtown Road Closures and Maintenance
The morning of Thursday, March 21, sections of Woolwich and Wyndham streets will be closed to through traffic and parking will not be permitted. Access to businesses will be maintained until about 9 a.m., and roads will re-open mid-afternoon.
  • Woolwich Street will be closed between Macdonell Street and the intersection of Woolwich, Wyndham and Eramosa Roads (Trafalgar Square).
  • Wyndham Street will be closed between Fountain Street and the intersection of Woolwich, Wyndham and Eramosa Roads (Trafalgar Square).
  • Fountain, Farquhar, and Freshfield Streets will be closed.
  • Downtown road and sidewalk maintenance activities on Wyndham, Douglas, Woolwich and Macdonell streets will take place from 3-7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20 and Thursday, March 21.
Parking
The Fountain Street and Farmers’ Market parking lots will be closed.

Parking will not be permitted on Fountain Street (east of Wyndham), Neeve Street, Surrey Street, Farquhar (between Wyndham and Gordon), Freshfield (from Fountain to the north limit.)

Guelph Transit
Some disruptions to Guelph Transit are expected. Detailed route and schedule changes will be announced as soon as possible.

Sleeman Centre bookings
Facility rentals are cancelled from Tuesday, March 19 at 5:30 p.m. until Saturday, March 23 at 6 a.m.
