PRESS RELEASE - City Announces New Water Rates for 2015

As per the recently approved changes by Guelph City Council, there will be changes to the water rates begining on March 1. The bad news is, it's going up; the good news though is that the increase is only coming to come out to less than $3 per month.
Here's the press release from the City of Guelph:
Guelph, ON, February 19, 2015—Guelph’s new water and wastewater rates take effect March 1, 2015.

The 2015 rate increase amounts to an approximate increase of $31 per year for the average three–person household, or 4.1 per cent. These rate increases were approved by Council on January 28 as part of the non-tax supported budget.

Residential water conservation efforts, an infrastructure leak detection and repair program, and wastewater optimization projects are contributing to lower than forecasted rate increases. This helps keep Guelph among the average for water rate charges among comparable Ontario municipalities.
The 2015 rates reflect the City’s commitment to take care of what it owns, enhance city services, and ensure regulatory compliance. Funding for water and wastewater infrastructure renewal continues to be the biggest driver of rate increases.

Residents and businesses can decrease their water bills by reducing the amount of water they use. The City offers a variety of resources to assist residents and local businesses to conserve water and reduce water/wastewater utility bills.
