Council Candidate Wants to Rally Riders

Instantaneously showing more leadership than many of the people already on city council, Ward 6 candidate Keith Poore is organizing a rally meant to encourage both sides of the transit lockout - the City of Guelph and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1189 - to get back to the negotiating table so that 14,000 daily transit users can get back on their bus.

Guelph, July 23, 2014 – A rally will be held on July 25th at 2:00 pm to encourage negotiations between the City of Guelph and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) local 1189. On July 20th, the ATU rejected the second offer the City of Guelph proposed to the union. On July 21st, the City of Guelph locked out the ATU. Since then, minimal communication has occurred between the two parties. Meanwhile, people who ride the bus to get around the city, to get to work, to get to school, to get to local stores all suffer from this lockout.

The rally will start at the University of Guelph’s Johnston Greens and will walk to City Hall. We are demanding that both parties return to the bargaining table, to end this disruption, so the citizens of Guelph can get back to their routine.
