2013 Mayor's Awards Announced
Here's some news from the Mayor's office even the most partisan of partisans should have no problem with, the announcement of the recipients of the 17th annual Mayor's Awards.
Here's the press release and the winners:
GUELPH, ON, June 27, 2013 – Tonight, Mayor Karen Farbridge will
honour five residents with the Mayor’s awards as part of the Guelph
Awards of Excellence gala.
The award winners are Gavin Armstrong, a University of Guelph student
renowned for fighting hunger and poverty; Emilie and Olivia Renaud for
working tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for the Bracelet of Hope
Campaign and local charities; Tina Brophey, an advocate for people
living in poverty and helping them to make ends meet; and Celeste
Donkersgoed for her commitment to improving the lives of children, young
people and seniors in the community through her work with more than 20
community organizations.
The Mayor will present each honouree with a print of a pen-and-ink
drawing by local artist Wayne Forest, depicting the new and old City
Halls.
“I am always pleased to honour outstanding members of our community
who exemplify the City’s vision of making a difference,” said Mayor
Farbridge. “Our Guelph Youth Strategy recommends the recognition of
youth achievements and it is incredibly inspiring to note that three
exceptional young people are among this year’s honourees.”
