You raise a numb...Adam, I somehow missed this post. You raise a number of points that resonate with me.

I have been critical but I also try to be balanced, and I agree posting with your name goes a long way to having a more productive dialogue. I challenged 59 Carden posters on this in August 2011, and was accused of a few things -- including if memory serves elevating myself because I use my name, politicking, and being hostile to free speech. Folks are very much attached to their anonymonity. But it does keep one honest and if you actually know who you're dialoguing with, it goes far in keeping things from decending into an ad homium sucker-punch contest. It also helps with curtailing bullying.

If you'll indulge me on the subject of challenging posters though, I did a lot of door knocking in the fall of 2010 in Ward 3 and I assure you, politics aside, there was a high level of discontent with the incumbants, especially Coun. Laidlaw. It would seem many of them didn't vote. All of which is to say, absolutely, Coun. Laidlaw won the election -- she got the most votes -- and I respect the system, but I suggest you need to examine the polling results more closely before you make too broad of a generalization about the result.

Adam, as a final note Coun. Laidlaw is practically a neigbour of mine and we see each other from time to time, especially as she is passing by my house. We never talk politics. The point is, yes, politics is politics. 100%. Then there is being a neighbour.

Neighbour or not, we are one community and we need to get away from the practise of vilifying a person, as much as they sometimes make you want to pull out your hair! But on this, those who would present themselves as progressive can be the most disappointing. I have a post about coersion becoming a community norm.

Cheers!Some guy named Craig Chamberlainhttp://craigchamberlainonline.comnoreply@blogger.com
